If you’ve ever been to Gatlinburg before, you’ve probably heard of Ober Gatlinburg. In 2022, this popular adventure park was sold to new owners, and it’s gone through some changes, including a rebranding. The park is now known as Ober Mountain, and we want to share some of the updates that have been happening and the upcoming changes you can expect.

Ober Sold to New Owners

Back in October 2022, a press release was sent out to let the public know that Ober had been sold to Sevier County natives, Joe Baker, Cory Cottongim, and Chuck Edwards. Baker, along with his wife, Jessi, are the owners of Yee Haw Brewing Company, so they know the Smoky Mountain area well. The former owner, Kent Anders, noted that selling Ober was a difficult decision, but no one in their family wanted to continue running the business. The new owners are excited to bring even more thrilling attractions to the area.

Complete Rebrand

Weeks after announcing that Ober had sold, another news release came out saying that the attraction was being rebranded to Ober Mountain. The new owners wanted it to be known as a year-round attraction, so they are making updates, one of them being a name change and new branding materials, including the logo.

New Things to Do

Along with the new name comes new things to do! In the spring of 2023, Ober Mountain introduced downhill mountain biking that allows visitors to “embrace the thrill and conquer the descent.” Mountain biking is a seasonal attraction that opens in the spring of each year. There is also a new jump pillow that adds excitement for the little ones! The owners have noted more will be added to the attraction in the coming years, but nothing else has been announced yet. We will continue to provide updates as they are released.

Other Fun at Ober Mountain

If you’ve never been to Ober Mountain before, you may be wondering what all there is to do there. Here are some of the most popular activities you will find at this Gatlinburg attraction.

Aerial Tram

Ober Gatlinburg Aerial Tramway

There is a tram that travels along a 2-mile track from downtown Gatlinburg to the mountaintop where Ober is located. Along the way, you will take in gorgeous views of the Smoky Mountains. It’s definitely the scenic route!

Snow Sports

Of course, Ober Mountain is the only ski resort in Tennessee, so you can’t come in winter without getting out on the slopes for skiing or snowboarding! You can also try your hand at snow tubing, and small children will have fun playing in the play area with all the snow they could want!

Ice Skating

Another one of the most popular activities at Ober is ice skating. This isn’t just a winter activity, though! The rink is located indoors, so you can get out on the ice anytime of the year! Plus, they have ice bumper cars for an added layer of fun!

Wildlife Habitat

Are you hoping to get an up-close look at some of your favorite Smoky Mountain residents, you’ll love the Wildlife Encounter at Ober Mountain. Visitors will have the chance to see a black bear family while they’re not hibernating, river otters, bobcats, fox, birds of prey, and more.

Now you know about the changes made and what you can expect in the coming years for Ober Mountain! Are you excited about seeing these changes for yourself? Then you need to start planning your next trip! Find one of our Gatlinburg hotel rooms, and book your vacation today!
